OnlyFans Creators Question Meta's Inconsistent Moderation as Muse AI Agent Gets Permission to Engage in Explicit Sexting
Adult content creators say Meta restricts their accounts while allowing its AI assistant to generate X-rated conversations with adult users.

What happened
Meta launched Muse, an AI agent available through Instagram and Facebook that users 18 and over can engage with for explicit sexting conversations. According to Meta, the app generates text-based adult content but not images or videos. Multiple OnlyFans creators told WIRED they find this policy contradictory, noting their own accounts face frequent restrictions and removal flags on Meta platforms. Meta spokesperson Tracy Clayton distinguished Muse's private one-to-one conversations from the marketing and promotion of services on social media platforms, and stated the company would not "block legal adult behavior." OnlyFans creator Vanniall, whose Instagram account with over 100,000 followers is currently restricted, expressed frustration: "It's not fair that they get to pull money out of people with their sexually active AI agent, but they won't let real people, real adults, engage in any sort of sensuality or sexuality."
Context
The complaint reflects a broader tension in Meta's content moderation approach. Adult performers already face challenges on Meta platforms compared to other social media sites like X and Bluesky, where adult content is permitted. OnlyFans creators depend on social media visibility to build audiences and direct traffic to their subscription service, making platform restrictions economically consequential. Some creators trace the censorship to FOSTA-SESTA, a 2018 law that altered Section 230 protections and prompted platforms to restrict adult content. Beyond moderation fairness, creators also raise questions about AI training data—specifically whether they were compensated if their work was used to develop Muse—and concerns that AI-generated adult content could eventually displace human performers. For some creators, Muse represents a symbolic inversion of the rules they navigate daily.
