Flight recorders recovered from Amazon cargo plane crash at Miami airport that killed five

What happened
A Boeing 767-300 cargo plane operated by 21 Air, arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico, overran the runway at Miami International Airport shortly before 14:00 local time on Sunday, the aircraft's third flight of the day. The plane struck two vehicles—a white Ford van belonging to a contract cleaning company carrying seven people and a Toyota Corolla with three passengers—after overrunning the runway, then traveled through a perimeter fence and came to rest approximately 1,300 feet beyond the runway. Five people were killed and five others seriously injured. The flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder have been recovered and sent to NTSB headquarters for evaluation. An active thunderstorm with winds gusting up to 26 knots was near the airport shortly before the crash.
Context
The crash occurred during the Labor Day holiday weekend, one of the busiest travel periods in the US, and resulted in the closure of two of the airport's four runways. The NTSB investigation will examine flight history, crew experience and training, radar data, aircraft performance, systems and engines, weather conditions, and whether the runway should have had an engineered materials arresting system (EMAS) designed to slow aircraft that overrun runways. The agency stated this examination of EMAS would be a key part of the investigation. Victim recovery remains the immediate priority while investigation and aircraft access can proceed after.
