What happened

Acer unveiled Project DualPlay Mini, a Windows gaming handheld with a flip-and-swivel design that transforms the device from a traditional controller-layout handheld into a keyboard-equipped portable computer. The device features an 8-inch screen, analog sticks, D-pad, Xbox-style ABXY buttons, dual shoulder triggers, a compact backlit mini keyboard, and is powered by an Intel chip with dual-fan cooling (one metal, one plastic fan). It includes a pair of USB-C ports on the back, with Thunderbolt support on one. The DualPlay Mini is currently a concept with no confirmed plans for retail release, and Acer has not disclosed full specifications.

Context

The DualPlay Mini addresses an existing market constraint: PC gamers traveling must choose between full-featured gaming laptops or smaller, less versatile Steam Deck–inspired handhelds. By integrating a keyboard into a handheld form factor similar to Acer's existing Predator Atlas 8, the device aims to enable both gaming and light productivity tasks on a single portable device. An 8-inch screen likely limits its utility as a primary work device without an external display, but could serve as a useful secondary option while traveling and would allow access to keyboard-dependent PC games on a handheld-sized device.
