What happened

Kyle Kennedy, 42, granddaughter of Robert F. Kennedy and Ethel Kennedy, died peacefully on September 21 at her home in Westwood, Massachusetts. Born July 6, 1984, in Washington DC, she earned degrees from Georgetown University (history), Pace University (early education), and Harvard Graduate School of Education (education policy and management). She worked as an educator in New York City through Teach for America and later advocated for disadvantaged children and people with disabilities. In 2012, she married Liam Kerr in Boston and had three children. In 2020, she suffered a severe spinal cord injury resulting in long-term paralysis and disability, after which she testified before the Massachusetts state house on discrimination in disabled healthcare. She is survived by her sons Conor and Declan, her former husband, her mother Victoria, her brother Michael, and her sister Rory.

Context

Kennedy's death represents a loss within the extended Kennedy family lineage. Her shift from general education reform to disability advocacy and her public testimony on healthcare discrimination following her own injury underscore her continued engagement with social policy despite severe medical challenges in her final years.
