What happened

TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 has selected five startups from 20 competitors to advance to the Startup Battlefield finals, scheduled for Thursday at 11:30 am Pacific. The finalists are: Apate, which deploys AI agents that impersonate victims to engage and study scammers across calls, messages, and social media; Flox Intelligence, which uses edge devices with trained perception systems to identify and deter wildlife with species-appropriate sounds; Intero Biosystems, developing human intestinal organoids containing multiple cell and tissue types for drug testing; Industrial Next, offering AI-powered robotic stations that can retool production lines in minutes without traditional programming and are already in use in smartphone manufacturing; and Satlyt, building software that enables satellites to share computing workloads in space to reduce dependence on ground-based flight controllers. The winner will receive the Startup Battlefield Cup and $100,000 in equity-free funding.

Context

The competition spans four technology categories identified as strategic: space and physical AI, energy and manufacturing, health tech and life sciences, and enterprise and security. The finalists represent different approaches to automating human work, improving safety and efficiency, and reducing dependency on traditional labor or infrastructure. Satlyt's goal of creating shared computing between satellites and Industrial Next's deployment in actual smartphone production indicate some solutions are already moving beyond proof-of-concept stages.
